About The Event

Conductor: Riccardo Bianchi

KorMalta will be performing a sung mass at the Church of the Jesuits in Valletta with works by prominent English composer William Byrd. The Catholic feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is a celebration of the Eucharist as the sacrament of Christ's real presence. KorMalta will be bringing to life this special liturgical ceremonies.

One of Byrd’s most famous works is his Four Voices Mass, which is a setting of the Ordinary of the Catholic Mass for four vocal parts – a shining example of the English Renaissance, a period of great creativity and artistic achievement in England. His mass and motets have stood the test of time. They are a beautiful and moving example of sacred choral music, and it’s just as relevant and inspiring today as it was when it was first composed. Byrd’s work is historically significant – composed during a time of religious conflict. Byrd was a Catholic in a Protestant country, and his music reflects his struggle to maintain his faith.
